Cemented Fence Posts Installation

CEMENTING YOUR CHAIN LINK FENCE POSTS

Cementing is the proprietary method of installing a fence. This way of setting posts is easily completed by a couple helpers, but can also be done alone with the aid of bricks or 2x4s.

It is important to follow all of the steps quickly, but do not skip step or jump to certain parts without your equipment; especially steps with mixing your cement (you want the cement to not begin setting until it is around the posts!.)

This process is begun when all post locations are marked and you are ready to install the beams into the ground. Here is how to cement your fence posts during construction:

Tools Needed:

Digging Tool (Auger, shovel)

Level

Gravel

Bucket (or wheelbarrow)

Drill

2x4s

Setting Posts in Concrete

Step 1: Break Ground

Dig a hole that is approximately three times the width of the post, and as deep as one third of the length of the pole. This can be completed with a shovel, or even an auger if you already have one at hand. The hole will be quite a large size, so this will take a moment if done by hand.

Step 2: Prepare Hole and Concrete

Pour gravel into the bottom of the hole, up to four inches deep. Crushed stone will also do the job. Do not forget to make the grave compact

Mix the concrete. It can be intuitive to use a wheelbarrow instead of a bucket for the

Step 3: Set The Post

Now, take the fence post and level it on top of the gravel in the hole. Make sure it is plumb (perfectly vertically straight) by using post levels that are placed on opposite corners of the post.

Pour the concrete into the hole surrounding the post. The post can also be held by 2×4’s so it is very easy to keep it level compared to holding it still.

Step 4: Fill Hole With Dirt

While the concrete begins to set, backfill the hole. Using the dirt from digging the hole, attentively level and make it compact.

Repeat these steps for all the posts. Keep in mind, the aid of 2×4’s, especially if you do not have a large workforce, can keep your post in the designated spot and will give your arms the freedom to pour the concrete appropriately.

Do not attach any panels to the posts before the cement has been left to set for 24 hours.
